Digging Deeper: A Christmas Story

I’ve had to dig a little deeper this year. 🎁

☆ I mean really dig. In the quiet times, alone. Sometimes in tears and usually after I feel I failed as a mother. We all know. “It’s a different year.” A different Christmas. It just all hits different right now, doesn’t it?

It’s a different year.

Tiffany Butler—pointing out the obvious

☆ I made myself sit and ponder. Maybe it was the Christmas star that did it for me, but in the mix of depression and work, melancholy and delight, there lies the truth of it all. And sometimes we just have to dig deep to find it.

☆ It seems I don’t know how to do that very well in the midst of the craziness. When I pull away I can see Christ in His splendor, in His peace, beckoning me to just come away with Him and stay awhile. It’s where I know I can just be. With Him. I question why it becomes such a quest to find the meaning in it all at times? Truth and simplicity can be glazed over by work, tinsel and bows, presents, and stress.

☆ But in a manger, far from the crowds and social media, here for you and me, He came. To bring us the best gift of all. Himself. Born for our sins. For our freedom. For us.

☆ Finding the time to find the truth is the most important thing right now. I hope you can find it—Him. I also hope you can find it in the midst of all you do—I know I’m trying although it seems to come easier when I just rest.

☆ He is here with us now. In the loneliness. In the strain. In the mess. And He’s the best part of it all! Take a moment to welcome Him in and say thanks—for another day, for life, for it all. Even these deep depths of sadness and questioning that lead us closer to Him and one another—to the important stuff. Thank God.

He is here with us now. In the loneliness. In the strain. In the mess. And He’s the best part of it all.

“BEHOLD, THE VIRGIN SHALL BE WITH CHILD AND SHALL BEAR A SON, AND THEY SHALL CALL HIS NAME IMMANUEL,” which translated means, “GOD WITH US.

-Matthew 1:23

And an angel of the Lord suddenly stood before them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them; and they were terribly frightened.  But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid; for behold, I bring you good news of great joy which will be for all the people; for today in the city of David there has been born for you a Savior, who is Christ the Lord. This will be a sign for you: you will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.” And suddenly there appeared with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying, “Glory to God in the highest,
And on earth peace among men with whom He is pleased.”

– Luke 2:9-14

Do not be afraid. We can trust Him.

Good news of great joy. There’s joy in Him.

For all people. For EVERYONE including you.

A Savior.

For to us a child is born,
to us a son is given,
and the government will be on his shoulders.
And he will be called
    Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God,
    Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
Of the greatness of his government and peace
    there will be no end.
He will reign on David’s throne
    and over his kingdom,
establishing and upholding it
    with justice and righteousness
from that time on and forever.
The zeal of the Lord Almighty
    will accomplish this.

-Isaiah 9:6-7

Wonderful Counselor. He’s with you. For you.

Mighty God. What can’t He do?

Everlasting Father. Forever.

Prince of Peace. Even now.

He reigns. Not COVID, not sadness, not sickness, not loneliness, but Him.

☆ May you have a very merry Christmas, my friend. We wish you all the best as we wrap up 2020 and head into 2021. I think our digging this year has shown us what’s really important now and in the New Year. And it’s really one another. ♡

Much love and Merry Christmas from Us, The Butler's, in the thick of it all but near the streams of Living Water

Oh Me, Oh My: Boxing Day Sales Already!

Perfect Lips on Sale

I love a good lipstick. 💋

♥ You too? Well, I’ve got you girl! I’ve found you a sweet sale you seriously can’t miss dropping December 23 – 28 that’s going to get you that perfect lip you’ve been looking for!

♥ Check out LimeLife’s new sale on lippies starting this week!: After you select your choice of one Enduring Lip Liner or Perfect Lip Gloss, you can then add one Perfect Lipstick or Enduring Lip Color for $28 USD/$36 CAD. It’s a savings of $12 USD/$16 CAD!

How to:

First, here’s our Enduring Lip Liners! Pick one of these:

These lipliners are the bomb.com for real as is all of the professional LimeLife makeup and skin care. I. want. it. all. The automatically self-sharpening packaging sharpens the tip with every twist of the cap to create perfectly lined lips every time! Crazy! The semi-matte, high coverage formula lasts 6 hours or more without feathering or transferring and has a lightweight feel.

This liner works equally as a liner, as a chic, matte look on its own or as a long-lasting base for your favorite lipstick or gloss. Whether you’re creating a bright, bold lip or staying understated with neutrals, our 12 highly pigmented shades perfectly complement any lipstick or skin tone. They seriously look gorgeous on. Cruelty free, gluten free, tree nut free, and peanut free. Paraben Free. Leaping Bunny Certified. Vegan. Need!

OR one of our Perfect Lip Gloss’s (ugh, that packaging alone!!):

Years ago, Alcone sold jeweled lip glosses similar to these as a holiday gift. They sold like hot cakes. So when we were looking for packaging for our glosses, we remembered those jeweled containers and how much women loved them. Sometimes, you just need a little sparkle to remind you that life can dazzle! This non-stick formula can be used on its own or on top of your favorite Perfect Lipstick or Enduring Lip Color to add shine and the appearance of healthier, more voluminous lips. These lip glosses are cruelty free, gluten free, tree nut free, peanut free, corn free, and soy free. Paraben Free. Leaping Bunny Certified. Vegan. Hello clean makeup! 17 Shades available! Ok, count me in, 17 times, how about you?!

Then pick a Perfect Lipstick:

Our lipsticks come in two professional formulas, opaque and sheer, so you can change how much color emphasis you want on your lips each day. The Power Pout formula is opaque and highly pigmented while Take A Hint applies sheer for a subtle hint of color that lasts. Apply on its own or after applying Enduring Lip Liner in a coordinating shade to create a longer lasting pout. The sheer, Take A Hint formula can be built in layers to achieve the perfect amount of coverage desired. 16 Shades available! Cruelty free, gluten free, tree nut free, peanut free, corn free, and most are soy free (contact me for list if needed). Paraben Free. Leaping Bunny Certified. Vegan. Yes please!!

OR Enduring Lip Color (or both if you can’t decide)!

Enduring Lip Color is a liquid lipstick that comes in 19 shades! This professional formula applies as a liquid and transforms to a matte, velvety finish with long-lasting, intense, opaque color. Use alone or in combination with other shades to create unique color combinations. This highly pigmented Enduring Lip Color creates the perfect matte lip. The unique formula keeps lips hydrated with a comfortable cushion of richly pigmented colour that applies as a liquid and transforms into a matte, velvety finish. The extreme longwear formula evenly applies intense colour that does not bleed, flake or feather. I love how these pair so well with the Perfect Lipsticks and Lipliners as well! Add a Perfect Lip Gloss on top for some shine!! The shades are to die for! Cruelty free and gluten free. Paraben Free. Leaping Bunny Certified. Vegan. I’ve got my eye on Birthday Cake!

Becoming Authentic Behind the Smile

Your smile.☺

◦ What do you hide behind it? Pain, fear, anger, jealousy, trauma, illness, sadness…? Are you authentic with those around you? Selah.

◦ I was taught to hide. To not say certain things or it could bring them on. Or maybe it would reveal I had no faith. In my mind, that was the kiss of death in ministry.

◦ I have more joy and strength of the Lord now just being me. I mean I’m still on a journey. Being authentic and transparent is a way to share both the good and the bad with those who may just need what you have to say. Your trial may be what showcases the glory of God more than any lying could have done.

◦ You don’t control the universe, He does. He is sovereign. You don’t need to sell His goodness like the world won’t believe it unless you’re fake. His goodness ABOUNDS y’all!!! It’s all around us through all the craziness we see on the surface.

◦ There’s a bridge to healing called truth. Walk it. Own it. Live it. Take the mask off and be you. God loves YOU. Not the fake you that you thought you had to portray to others.

◦ I’m gonna fly my freak flag high folks and hope you come to know the REAL me and that ya, this trial I’m going through sucks, and it’s real, and it’s raw, and it’s scary. Getting the word “cancer” thrown on you is NOT something I wish for anyone.

◦ Do you hide the real you behind a smile? What have trials taught you? Have you come to lean on God even more through them? Comment below! I’d love to hear any encouragement, wisdom, and your experiences!

In LimeLife Love: Professional, Organic, Vegan, Makeup + Skin Care

I’m in LimeLife love! 💄

⋆ You’ve been waiting for the news. Well here it is. I’m now sharing beauty products with other women like myself who also want professional and clean skin care and makeup in their lives. I’m now a LimeLife by Alcone Beauty Guide!

⋆ Ok, wait, why LimeLife, why makeup…wait, what’s going on?? I’m so glad you asked! I’ve been looking for a makeup and skin care line to partner with for a couple of months now that is industry-credible, professional, clean, and that also gives back. It had to line up with my mission and goals as a fashion and beauty blogger, and as an entrepreneur with Christian values. I want to give my followers the best products out there, and to be honest, this was not an easy check list to meet! For awhile, I was considering going with another company and then I saw many of the women I was following starting to leave it. I dug a bit deeper and found that some of that companies’ values didn’t seem to line up with mine. That led me back to the drawing board.

⋆ Then I found it! Thanks to a video from my now beauty and business mentor, I saw a company that was industry-respected because they just had great stuff! I had to know more before I decided. LimeLife wasn’t always available to every woman. This family-owned company was founded in 1952, selling stage makeup to starlets out of a small store in New York City. Their products were the pro-makeup used only by makeup artists — you had to be an industry professional to even get your hands on the stuff. Many celebrities have used it and spoken highly of it such as Kim Kardashian and so many others such as Sarah Jessica Parker, the Blue Man Group, Broadway musicals (The Lion King, and the list goes on and on!). It was also made famous to the masses by Oprah a few years ago when she choose the LimeLife by Alcone Riki Mirror as ‘One of Oprah’s Favorite Things’! (Just one of the many LimeLife things on my personal Christmas list this year!). Featured in:

Around the web

LimeLife recently decided to make their products available to everyone just 5 years ago and since 2018 here in Canada. At the heart of their expansion was that makeup artists began to refer their clients to them to learn about their favorite products. LimeLife recognized that same drive, to help people get excellent quality makeup and pursue passions of their own, in so many others, hence LimeLife by Alcone was birthed. If you want to get your hands on this stuff you have to either go to one of their Beauty Guides (me, me, me!!) or go to their store in NYC with a pro makeup artist card.

⋆ So what’s so great about it? First, it not only looks amazing but it’s clean! All LimeLife skin care is Leaping Bunny-certified cruelty-free, organic and chemical-free! Our professional makeup is Leaping Bunny-certified cruelty-free and as natural as possible without sacrificing its performance. I LOVE this. As I age, I’ve come to realize I don’t want to continue to put just any old garbage on my face. I also want to try and slow aging and make my face look as dewy and youthful as possible (the needs definitely change as you hit middle age girls)! I only wish I would have done this earlier, in my 20’s and 30’s, and helped prevent much of the skin damage and aging I’m now seeing in my skin.

Honestly, if all I bought out of this was this lip gloss I would be happy! That packaging! 😍 photo credit: LimeLife by Alcone

⋆ Additionally, all LimeLife packaging can be refilled and when you do so, we make a donation to the ‘Brighter Together Foundation’ to help your good deed go even further. We’ve also partnered with TerraCycle® to offer a free recycling program for the rest of our skin care and makeup packaging. Everything from bottles and tubes to pumps and caps can be mailed in to become raw and reused material! What a bonus for those of us who care about what kind of planet we are living in and leaving to the next generation.

⋆ If you know me, or have been following my business journey over the past 3 years, you know how important it is for me to give back as an entrepreneur. It’s part of the vision and mission of all I do with Trumpet + Tassel and beyond. LimeLife is a ‘soul sister’ or ‘bosom friend’ to what I already do. When you purchase one of our Brighter Together Collections, you help provide entrepreneurial field training and support to women in the world’s most impoverished countries. Come on! Helping women in developing countries find empowering entrepreneurial opportunities so that they can become independent and thrive is definitely a dream of mine coming true!

“We pass 100% of our funding onto our charitable partner, Project Concern International’s (PCI) Women Empowered (WE) Initiative. WE members pool their savings and make loans to one another, and PCI gives the women guidance to start their own successful businesses. Together, we have already helped over 13,000 female entrepreneurs become leaders in their communities.”

LimeLife by Alcone, Brighter Together Foundation

⋆ So yes, I’m excited! I’m excited because these products are pro, natural, vegan, cruelty-free, paraben-free, and Leaping Bunny certified. They give back and help women gain credible entrepreneurship. ☑☑☑☑☑☑☑

⋆ What makeup and skin care do you currently use? What’s important to you when making purchases? Do you care what quality of products you’re putting on your face? ➤ Let’s get you colour matched! Check out my LimeLife website link here and take my free, quick and easy colour match quiz here! Once you’re done, send it to me and I will personally get in touch with you! My Peachy Gift Guide for Women: Tiffany’s Favorite Things

Here it is. My Peachy faves for Christmas! ❅

❅ I’ve rounded up a few of my favorite things as my 1st Annual ‘Peachy Gift Guide for Women’! Everything on the list is definitely under $80 CDN (and most way under that). I also seriously love each item and use each one, or I’m about to purchase one for myself!

❅ I hope we all know the drill right now. Try to shop small and local as much as possible because most businesses are really struggling right now. If the company that makes the item seems to be larger, you can still support a local store that carries it.

Now let’s get some amazing finds for our friends
  • Trumpet + Tassel – this local, small and woman-owned Canadian business makes handmade tassel jewelry for big causes. And I own it! Made in small-town Manitoba, Canada and operating from Etsy online, this jewelry is both super pretty and totally affordable to purchase. PLUS 10% currently goes to help The Canadian Cancer Society, a cause we can all get behind (gifting that gives back is the way to go whenever possible). There’s only 4 of these star and semi-circle tassel earrings available so snap them up quick! Buy all 4 for different outfits! A beautiful and thoughtful gift for the friend that loves accessories, and for every woman in your life this Christmas. $18.75 CDN. How to purchase: Trumpet + Tassel
  • Limelife by Alcon – this Perfect Lip Gloss. Based on the packaging alone, this makes an amazing gift for that peachy woman in your life. Seriously, how gorgeous is this? This non-stick formula can be used on its own or on top of your favorite Perfect Lipstick or Enduring Lip Color to add shine and the appearance of healthier, more voluminous lips. This one is in the colour ‘Peace’. Love it! I’ll be selling this stuff soon so you can buy from me then but in the meantime, go support my girl’s small business with your purchase. She’s a retired military veteran and a gem! This company also gives back (of course it does or would I even get involved?). An awesome stocking stuff idea for your daughters and mom friends. $24 CDN. How to purchase right now: Limelife by Alcon – Beauty is Fearless
  • Hosanna Revival – I found this small business on Instagram a few months ago and I adore their Bibles! This Provence theme caught my eye in their new ‘Winter 2020 Collection’. That lavender! Plus it has extra wide margins for journaling (which is something I want to get into) and it’s in my favourite ESV version. Small and woman-owned, the heart behind this business is so sweet. In 2015 while studying in Spain, the founder Katie had the idea to re-bind and paint her bilingual Bible. It was plain black — she wanted her Bible to be beautiful and personal, reflecting the way the words on the inside made her feel. As a business now, they’re convinced that a beautiful Bible can revive the heart of a believer gone astray by motivating them and reminding them of the truth beyond the cover. On my Christmas list! Put it on yours for your Christian bestie and that artistic Jesus lover! $79 CDN. How to purchase: Hosanna Revival
  • Carhartt -these toques are a must-have and this colour is so gorgeous! I have to find it for my toque collection! Look stylish and stay warm this winter with this on-trend brand. For every cold woman you know. $22 CDN. How to purchase: You can buy them at your local mall’s Boathouse store! This store has so many other great gift finds, I highly suggest it: Boathouse (they are also currently open for essential purchases in Brandon, MB at the Shoppers Mall so if you’re from the area, go support them!). If you don’t have a Boathouse, another Canadian store option: Western-Canadian-owned Peavey Mart.
  • Tiber River – I recently bought one of these candles in ‘Bourbon Pumpkin Smash’ and oh my gosh it’s to die for! This one smells amazing (it’s not one of those cheap and stinky smelling candles), and it has the crackling wood wick. Triple win! This company is Canadian and women-owned plus it’s based right here in Manitoba in Winnipeg, Canada. They also have so much more than candles and everything is made from naturally derived ingredients! I’m supporting my good friend Barbara Shram from Warman, Saskatchewan with this one. Buy from her and you won’t regret it she is one of the sweetest people I know. Great for that person that needs to relax. $34 CDN. How you can purchase: Tiber River – Barbara Shram
  • S’well – A Certified B Corp company. These water bottles are stainless steel and keep your water cold for so long! I love all of the designs! This one in particular is gorgeous and the wide traveler top is so handy as well. Many small and local shops carry their brand so you can choose one close to you and order away! I found a Coles store in our local mall that sells them and you can get curbside delivery right now. You can also order them online if need be. Perfect for your healthy workout friend! $45 CDN. How you can purchase: Canadian Coles/Indigo

❅ Which items are you going to get for a friend or yourself? Let me know in the comments! I’m looking forward to hearing from you! Happy Christmas shopping!

Boho Love + Self-Care

Rock it.

⋆ That’s what I’ve been trying to do. Rock the quarantine. Rock the depression. Rock the gray hair. Get up, show up, and level up. Ok, ok, some days I don’t want to get up and other days I don’t even get up but I tell you, nothing helps the doldrums more than a fresh face of makeup and some new clothes!

Get up, show up, and level up.

⋆ I should have showed you the ‘before’ photos. Yikes. Prior to this ministry break I was burnt out, tired, unhealthy, and on the verge of letting bitterness take root in my heart. Ladies (and men) don’t let people, or yourself for that matter, tell you that self-care isn’t important or isn’t spiritual enough. It is. You can’t give people anything if you are completely worn out or worse yet, dead. You have a calling here? Take care of your spirit, but also your mind AND body too so you can fulfill it! I’m learning. Self-care is so important.

Now on to outfit deets!

⋆ As you know, I love a good basic tee. This one is from Ardene’s in an XL because I don’t love a cropped top on a 50 year old! I went a little bigger than usual so I would avoid biscuit-tummy hang-out and it also gives me some room for a cute front tuck. If you don’t like skin-tight shirts either then size up. I also love neutral colours, one of which is olive green. I honestly think this shirt was only $6 CDN. Score on this find.

I went a little bigger than usual so I would avoid biscuit-tummy hang-out.

⋆ I have to admit, the faux leather pants look is amazing! I had a pair a year or two ago, before it was cool I guess. They’re too small on me now so I got these ones at Ardene’s. Let me tell you, these leggings are so comfortable, not hot (my prior ones made me so sweaty), and they look fantastic dressed up or down! Don’t want your butt to show? Make sure your tee is longer in the back or pair it with a cardigan!

⋆ Obviously I love my accessories. I don’t think I would have spent the past 3 years handmaking custom jewelry for women if I didn’t. Accessories can really bring an outfit from drab to fab in seconds! I love layering necklaces and bracelets and really showcasing my mood and personality with the pieces I choose. You can too by going classic with a simple gold chain or by going more bold with bright colours or statement accessories. Tassels add that trendy boho look that, so far, doesn’t seem to be going out of style.

⋆ The things that you purchase can even help change the world. 10% of my brand’s income goes to world-wide non-profits that are making a difference in the world. Right now I’m trumpeting The Canadian Cancer Society, just one of the many non-profits that we have given to over the past few years. There are lots of amazing brands out there, jewelry included, that are socially conscious and kingdom-minded. Watch where you spend your money and, when you can, try to partner with businesses that align with your values.

⋆ Now let’s talk makeup. I’ve been wearing makeup since the 7th grade. For real. My sister is 4 years older than me so I had lots of beauty influence and help as a young girl growing up. Over the past few years, I haven’t really taken makeup and beauty stuff too seriously. My biggest requirement in a mascara was that it wouldn’t run when I led worship (come on where’s my church girls at?!) Most days I don’t wear any makeup, especially in the summer, but I LOVE to experiment and create with it! Honest post right here – I got completely addicted to watching YouTube makeup video’s during this quarantine. Yes, I said it. I love watching these amazing women transform themselves from pretty to gorgeous with colour, powder, and creams. It’s just so fascinating and satisfying! If you’re at all creative you probably enjoy it as much as I do or trust me, you will if you watch just one video.

For this look, I used—
  • Rimmel Insta Flawless Primer
  • Stila Hide & Chic Liquid Foundation in Light 3
  • Rimmel Stay Matte Concealer in Porcelain (not recommended)
  • Nars ‘Orgasm’ blush (sorry mom)
  • Maybelline Master Chrome in Molten Gold
  • Physicians Formula Bronze Booster bronzer
  • 3 colours from the 35OM Morphe palette on the eyes with a lighter colour from the Marcelle Quintet quad
  • Ardelle lashes
  • some sort of Rimmel brow liner in Hazel which I still have to change; since my hair is so ashy now it doesn’t work but it’s all I have
  • L’oreal Infallible Eyeliner in black, Rimmel Transparent Powder
  • and a combo of L’oreal 401 and Maybelline 540 on my lips

⋆ I really don’t own that much makeup right now so I’ve been just throwing together whatever I can dig out of my drawer. That being said, since I’ve been doing more fashion and beauty posts (and enjoying those makeup videos), I’m going to be aligning with a professional makeup brand! I haven’t started yet but I can’t wait to introduce y’all to it and to wear it in my upcoming beauty posts! I’ve been trying to find a brand that is professional, excellent quality, good for the skin, helps others, and looks amazing, and I have found it! Watch for upcoming posts to find out more and to see some looks. You’ll even be able to purchase what you like and what I wear as well from me! So exciting!

To me, the essence of truly modern makeup is the freedom to be yourself, to express who you are.

I love being super–tough, but if I need to put on a dress and do my hair and makeup, I can do that too.

30-Day Gratitude Challenge

Grateful. 🙏

◈ Today we are starting a “30-day Gratitude Challenge” in our homeschool. My sister started one about 10 days ago on Facebook so I joined her. It’s been an amazing way to start or end the day, focusing on what we are truly thankful for instead of the mess going on around us. My son does a daily journal, and in the midst of the Christmas “I-wants”, I thought what better way to refocus on what’s important then to write 1-3 things each day that he is already grateful for.

In ordinary life, we hardly realize that we receive a great deal more than we give, and that it is only with gratitude that life becomes rich.

Gratefulness Challenge Day 10 – ‘Today I’m grateful for the gift of creativity.’ – Tiffany

Gratitude is a word used to express thankfulness and praise.

grat·i·tude/ˈɡradəˌt(y)o͞od/noun

the quality of being thankful; readiness to show appreciation for and to return kindness.

◈ Remaining in a state of gratefulness is a skill and it takes practice. Teaching our children early to be grateful and thankful in all things is a gift that will last them their entire lifetimes. It’s a gift that especially pays off in difficult times, as we can all attest to now. Not only that, but it’s God’s will for each of us. He always knows best.

Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.

—1 Thessalonians 5:16-18

◈ Only a few days into the challenge, I have already noticed a huge difference in my attitude. I must admit it was getting quite stinky before I started. Getting burdened down with the cares of life, rising COVID numbers, being in quarantine, cabin fever, and various health challenges can just get to you. Especially if you let it. Being grateful can bring us greater peace and inner joy and it refocuses our gaze onto the positive things in life instead of the negatives.

◈ When you’re in that state of gratefulness, it’s important to remember who it is you’re actually grateful to – it’s not some outer planetary source called the universe or some joojoobah energy (don’t know where I got that word from haha!). It’s GOD! He’s the one that supplies us with all we need and He does more than we can even ask.

And my God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus.

—Philippians 4:19

Now to him who is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think, according to the power at work within us,

—Ephesians 3:20

◈ The Story of Hannah and Samuel in 1 Samuel 1 is such a beautiful Biblical testament to true gratitude. This story really shaped my life around the time we adopted our son (I of course ended up naming him Samuel). I encourage you to take some time to read the entire chapter, maybe for the first time or as a review. Here’s a portion of the scripture where Hannah shows here gratefulness to the Lord, saying to the priest Eli:

And she said, “Oh, my lord! As you live, my lord, I am the woman who was standing here in your presence, praying to the Lord. For this child I prayed, and the Lord has granted me my petition that I made to him. Therefore I have lent him to the Lord. As long as he lives, he is lent to the Lord.”

—1 Samuel 1:26-28
How can YOU join in?
  • Set an example – take the challenge yourself. I’m currently doing the challenge with family as a Facebook status on my personal page. You might not want to do it in such a public way but the one good thing about that is that it helps keep you accountable. Remembering to do it is key! Another way to take part is to buy yourself a beautiful journal and keep track in it. There’s lots of journals made specifically for gratitude challenges but if you’re wanting to start with us today, pick anything you have laying around the house and just do it! Another great idea is the many free app’s on the Apple or Google Play Stores. I recently downloaded a free app called ‘Gratitude: Journal & Reminders’ onto my iPhone. There’s also the ‘365 Gratitude Journal’. Be careful though. Some app’s require payment after you’ve already started (that may be okay with you, but just a heads up). Another super easy idea is Etsy! You can even buy digital downloads of pre-designed Gratitude journal pages. Here’s one example I found. So, start with us today and we will have a whole month of gratefulness posts done just in time for Christmas! What a way to celebrate Advent and Christmas (I already know what I’m going to post on Christmas Eve – guess!)
  • Have your child/ren start their own Gratitude Journal in your homeschool or home. We use the simple and free Google Docs app on my son’s school computer as a daily journal. You could pizzazz that idea up by using a paper journal that your child can decorate. They can colour a picture, take a photo of, or draw what they are grateful for each day. Go whole hog and use markers, paint, GLITTER, glue, found objects, etc. You could also try posting a white or chalk board up where they can post to each day. Maybe the whole family would want to get in on it if it’s up in a public space such as the kitchen. You could also have your child improve their writing skills by using this challenge to encourage them to write letters of gratitude to people in their lives, public servants, etc. The sky’s the limit! We are going to be making a ‘Thank you Health Care Workers’ sign for our living room window in art class this Friday. Join us!
  • Start a family gratitude jar on January 1st. Have your family write what they’re grateful for on little pieces of paper and in a year open them up! You’ll have an amazing list of things that happened throughout the year on your next New Year’s Eve!
  • Combine this challenge with a Random Acts of Kindness lesson. As I wrote about in a previous post on random acts of kindness, this would be a super way to combine gratefulness with this lesson. Have your child/ren write a list of people they are grateful for and then one random act of kindness they could do for each. In this time of quarantine there are still various ways you could do this. Write a letter, draw a picture, drop a gift at a door, shovel a sidewalk, send a text or email, call a friend or family member, share the love!

Enter his gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise; give thanks to him and praise his name. For the LORD is good and his love endures forever; his faithfulness continues through all generations.

—Psalm 100:4-5

◈ What are you going to do to show your gratefulness? Are you going to join me on this challenge? How about your homeschool?

Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, let us be thankful, and so worship God acceptably with reverence and awe, for our “God is a consuming fire.”

—Hebrews 12:28-29

◈ I would LOVE to hear from you if you’re going to join in! Send me an note! If you homeschool, let me know what your kids will be doing for the challenge! I’m really looking forward to doing this with you in community! Follow along with me on Instagram. I’m trying to post a “What are you thankful for” post on my Stories each day. You can even post along with me on there daily if you’d like!

Comfy Quarantine Style

‘Comfy.’

⭒ If you ask me, it’s definitely the word for 2020 fashion. Everything is getting paired down this season. Lives, jobs, attitudes, unnecessities, and even style. Some of us are really not healthy and are battling the coronavirus. Others of us are struggling with our mental health or with another issue. Maybe you’re 100 but what’s the point of wearing uncomfortable clothes when most of our days are spent sitting around our homes? I mean let’s be honest, the biggest trip I’m currently taking is from the living room to the kitchen for more snacks (oh great, another idea for a post). And even if you’re still working in essential services outside of the home, you want to be able to come back from the stress and relax.

I remember when I worked outside of the home – the best part was getting into my PJ’s or sweats at the end of a long day. Now I work in them all. day. long.

⭒ Right before stores shut down I actually went out and bought a couple of things that are both comfortable and stylish. I know, right! It was literally my first shopping trip in months. Check out what I got, on sale no less!

my gimpy hand was trying to get into the pocket that I didn’t take the thread out of.

⭒ And of course I had to make some earrings to go with it! I paired this beautiful mauvy-pink outfit with some star + crescent baby blue tassel danglers for a soft, feminine look.

⭒Loungewear is both on trend and can be dressed up for an errand run or just because you’re tired of looking like a complete slob. Am I the only the one?

⭒ So here’s what I’m wearing:

  • This beautiful Aeropostale lounge set is from Bluenotes in Brandon, Manitoba, Canada and it was 40% off! Such a pretty colour! They have some fab sales on right now.
  • My earrings are from yours truly at my jewelry brand Trumpet + Tassel. I only made a few so get them quick! They’ll be listed on my Etsy store some time this weekend.
  • This camel-coloured coat is from Ardene. Such a great find for a good price! Note: I got this one in XL so I can easily put it over sweaters, hoodies, etc. I just looked and they have a 50% off sale on right now!
  • My burgundy purse, coin necklace, and black combat boots are also from Ardene. If you want super affordable trendy items like these, go here. Trends come and go so quickly, so I don’t spend much money on them (remember – spend more money on quality basics and less on trendy items).
  • My hat is from Urban Outfitters online (I’ve linked it in a previous post). I bought this a few months ago thanks to a recommendation from Brooke Derksen. Check her out on Instagram! This colour and style goes with everything so ya, I wear it a lot. Once again, a trendy item I wouldn’t spend much money on.
  • I went with a lot of pinks on my eye and lip for this look. My makeup was from a literal mixture of crap I dug up out of my disgusting makeup drawer. I’ve hardly worn makeup for 10 months so bare with me. I’m looking at buying and sharing a new brand though that is both professional quality and good for your skin! I’ll let you know! In the meantime and if you’re interested, I’ll do a separate post on this makeup look and let you know what drugstore products I used!
  • My hair has not been professionally dyed or cut for almost a year now so I can’t give any super great tips there lately other than if you’re can do your own, go for it. At this point, we don’t have much choice with everything shut down here right now. To be honest, I can’t imagine how much money I’ve saved! This isn’t to put my amazing stylists out of business. Y’all know we’ll be back when it’s safe, but let’s take advantage of this time and get our hair as healthy as possible! Use this time to condition it up and go au natural! Grey-hairs unite! An amazing conditioner is from the brand Olaplex. OMG you guys! By it local if you can!

⭒ What’s your favourite go-to outfit for these long quarantine days? Hope you are all staying healthy and let me know how are you are and if I can pray for anything!

Here’s the real weird-o-me saying HI and sending virtual hugs to you!

Missing everyone,
